How to Play

Welcome to Dwell in Darkness, a story telling and role-playing site set in the macabre Wold of DarknessTM as created by White Wolf Publishing, Inc.

I know, I hear you.

"Well that's nice, if I knew what that meant I wouldn't be reading this now would I? Silly git!"

Point well taken. In it's simplest form this is a place for the mutually interactive creation of tales of horror and suspense using the guidelines set forth in the aforementioned system, but rather than give you a long winded definition, how about we open the door and take a peek...

Linda Rae Winters

There was a mortal below her, at the entrance to the church. He was speaking with someone in the shadows.

That's when she felt it, like the lapping waves of a tide pool licking her toes. Her skin tightened and she licked the back of her teeth as they pushed their way through her soft, pink gums.

...sooo hungry...

....so fucking hungry, and Kine blood was getting so much thinner and unsatisfying these days...

...taintthereistaintbelowsomethingdelicious...

Linda stretched her wings wide and pushed off from the building; the wind whistled by her cold corpse as it plummeted gracefully to the ground below

(( squeeze the blood, make it work... DEX 6 ))

She twisted in mid air artfully, enjoying the graceful decline, positioning herself best for impact.

The concrete sidewalk groaned and cracked as she hit it, dropping to all fours as graceful as a cat. Her posture screamed predator... A score or more of her own bones shattered within her body, but she maintained the delicate pose as if nothing were amiss.

...well, if amiss were defined by unintentional results, well, then nothing really was, was it?

Linda smiled through extended teeth, a small hiss of pain/pleasure escaping her mouth as she knitted her bones back together on the spot.

...nowimreallyfuckinghungry...

"Priest", she called out as if in a greeting. He was standing before her in the main archway; his ghoul Antonio, was also present.

Linda stood, once she was able to. Tarzan in the buff, that felt wonderful.

She walked towards the astonished pair. "I'm feeling a bit randy tonight", she admitted as she looked from the Kindred to his ghoul. "I thought you might be up for a game of 'punish the wicked'?"

Wicked?

If anything was particularly wicked right now, it was her wicked smile.

Father Santana

The shock of the instant caused Santana to recoil in a moment of fear. Instinctively, he grabbed Antonio and thrust him between the two of them as a barrier. Any wise person would consider the relevant issues at hand before being pleased to see the Hound. Then she spoke. He remembered their last hunt. That had been glorious indeed. God?s wrath had struck deep into the hearts of the sinners. It would do him well to do so again. He had atonement to make anyway.

Without warning the voice was in his head...

"Priest, what is your duty?" It rang out.

"To be your hand of wrath oh Lord." he answered in silence.

"Who deserves my wrath Priest?" the voice questioned cynically.

"The wicked Lord." he avoided.

"Who is wicked Priest?" the voice demanded.

"Those who lose the path to you Lord." he answered.

"Who is wicked?!?!" it screamed at him.

"I am..." he meekly answered.

"Yes, Priest, yes you are! Go with her..spread my word and my justice, and if it becomes your turn, you will accept your penance." it ordered.

He nodded. Too anyone else it would seem as though he took a moment to consider he question and nodded yes in response. "Madame Winters...I would be delighted. There is much wickedness which needs it. Did you have a particular den of inequity in mind? Or shall we simply let God's hand be our guide?" He smiled in response and motioned for Antonio to go back inside.

A community of those that enjoy allowing their muse to wander and letting their creative juices flow freely, the game itself is secondary, a simple system of mechanics to resolve matters which might be questionable. Writing is the key here and your own imagination the only true limitation. In a perfect scenario all matters are decided mutually between the writers involved and the books are only reached for and opened if there is a dispute as to the outcome of an action. While all the writers are encouraged to own a copy of the books their character will need for reference, it is not mandatory. As long as you know the scope and limitations of your character and how to create the character within the parameters of the rules, you should be good to go. That being said, the more you know about the basic rules the more flavor you can add to your virtual persona.

The main point here is to have fun. There are several reasons people enjoy role play in this format. Creative outlet, emotional release, comradery with like minded people, whatever your reason fun is the main goal. With that thought in mind please take the following into consideration.

  1. Have fun...remember, however, others are here to have fun as well. Each and everyone of us spend time, energy and effort in creating and writing for our characters. Conflicts will occur, unexpected events will happen, this is what makes forums such as this a unique experience. If you don?t like a result or disagree with an action, don?t argue till you?re blue in the face, simply ask for a Moderator. (i.e. someone with a funny colored name...oh sorry Lethe..-coloured- name)
  2. God Modding will not be tolerated. Never describe what happens to someone else?s character without expressed consent from the other party. As mentioned previously, if at any time you disagree with an action, pause the scene and ask for a Moderator.
